The Art of Data and Research

With almost limitless options for organizing, analyzing and basically playing around with data and metrics these days, it’s easy to confuse quantity for quality.  It’s been referred to as the ‘delusion of rigorous research’ and basically means don’t be fooled that a lot of food on the plate means the meal is going to be good.

A good data strategy at the beginning helps make sure you’re capturing the right things – and certainly, some things can be effectively expressed or revealed through complex modeling – but many business leaders are coming back around to the understanding that sometimes it’s more art than science.

Charts and graphs can suck you in, but can’t replace good instincts and an intrinsic knowledge or understanding of your business; your products; the value of your services; or your customer.
